About

Digital

It was at university in 1993 that I first used the early world wide web. In 1995 a clairvoyant told me I would make my living with computers, she was right. Twenty years on I am a freelance web designer. After teaching myself the basics I worked in the industry for over 5 years before going freelance in 2015.

Ceramics

In my twenties I studied Fine Art Ceramics at degree level and pursued the life of a potter for most of the 1990’s. Exhibiting at galleries through the UK alongside producing hand thrown domestic wares to sell at local markets. My main area of interest was early English slipware, in particular North Devon pottery of the 17th century. I loved making pottery but just I don’t have the space or time for it these days. My kilns and potters wheel are stashed under the stairs waiting for my semi retirement or Premium Bonds win whichever comes first.

Photography

My first camera was a Pentax K100 bought in 1988 for an A level Photography course that I never finished. I wasn’t a very a technical photographer, the dark room processes scared me but I loved taking pictures anyway.

Before computers and mobile phones I spent a fair chunk of my income on film and developing film, I had a thing about slides and used to review my images on my bedsit wall with a slide projector, usually disappointed with the results. How things have changed.

Modern digital photography is so liberating and taking photos has never been easier or more accessible. I moved on from the bedsit but still have the projector.

The pages here are my repository, they makes me curate the hundreds of images I take on my Nikon DSL camera. Like my old projector I guess except I feel more comfortable sharing the images. Because these days we are all photographers, thanks to mobile phones and social media.
